Fartlek is Swedish for “speed play”: one continuous run that mixes faster surges with easier running, instead of stopping between reps. It builds speed and endurance at the same time, and it's one of the most fun ways to train.
Fartlek, the app, turns that idea into structured runs: every surge and every recovery has an effort target and a cue, so you always know when to push. Alongside fartlek you get intervals, tempo runs, hills and long runs.
Tell Pete what you feel like running, or send a photo of a workout you saw, and he builds it in seconds: warm-up, reps, recoveries and cool-down, sized to the time you have. Or he finds a matching run in the library.
Choose 5K, 10K, general fitness or your own goal, like a first half marathon, and the days you can run. Pete plans each week around your race date and how last week went, and you can chat with him to move or change a run.
Every rep has an effort target, from 30% (very easy) to 100% (all out). Voice, color and haptic cues tell you when to speed up and when to recover, even with your phone locked in your pocket. Intervals by time or by distance.
Send your plan runs to Apple Watch and run them in Apple's Workout app, or with Fartlek on the Watch. They come back to your plan as done.
See every rep with pace, heart rate and calories, synced with Apple Health. Pete picks one thing from the data to work on next time and tells you what your next run is for.
Structure without the clutter.
25 workouts: intervals, fartlek, tempo, hills and long runs, plus classics like Yasso 800s, Billat 30/30, Mona Fartlek and the Norwegian 4x4.
What 60% or 80% should feel like, from the talk test to all out. No pace or heart-rate zones needed.
A cue at the start, middle and end of every rep, with the screen off.
Runs, heart rate and calories saved to Apple Health automatically.

Yes. Fartlek is an iPhone and Apple Watch app built around fartlek and interval running. It has ready-made fartlek workouts, and its AI coach can build one to your liking, like “30 minutes of fartlek with short surges”, with an effort target and a cue for every surge.
Fartlek lets you run intervals by time or by distance, with voice, color and haptic cues that work with the screen locked, and it runs on Apple Watch. Unlike a plain interval timer, it also has an AI coach that builds workouts for you and training plans for 5K, 10K and more.

Fartlek uses an effort scale from 30% to 100%, a version of RPE (rate of perceived exertion). 30% is very easy, 60% is steady, 70% is moderately hard, 80% is hard and 100% is all out. The app includes a guide to how each level should feel, so you don't need pace or heart-rate zones.
Yes. If you can't yet run 20 minutes without stopping, your plan starts with run/walk intervals, and every run is guided by feel rather than pace.
